The traditional hopper is popular and prevalent. Due to its straight-forward simplicity, a hopper feeder often is the one people choose when they first start feeding the birds. As the name implies, a hopper feeder is a box-like storage and dispensing system that not only makes seed available for birds on demand but usually has a roof to help keep seed dry. It stores seed and automatically replenishes it in the feeder port, usually through gravity, until the hopper is empty.
